Daruma? … Dharma!

daruma dharma dolls

Dharma (達磨) dolls, also spelt Daruma, are Japanese good luck talismans. The dolls are usually hollow, made of paper-mache and can be seen in various establishments throughout Japan – and in Japanese establishments abroad. If you’ve been to a Japanese restaurant or cafe, you’ve probably seen these guys hanging around! The ones in the picture were taken at a festival in the Asakusa district of Tokyo.
