Tteokbokki (떡볶이), also spelt ddeokbokki and topokki, is a Korean dish made of rice cakes and a sweet and spicy chilli sauce. It is traditionally a street food and is still very popular as such. There are many varieties of the dish, a common one being with fish cakes and spring onions. The other varieties can include different ingredients and even different takes on the sauce, such as spicy carbonara. The rice cakes are thick and chewy, meaning they absorb some of the wonderful sauce – and wonderful this dish truly is! The dish in the picture is of a seafood tteokbokki from a restaurant in the Myeong-dong area of Seoul.
